A Whedonite post

As a Whedonite you are required to posses the following:

Witty sarcastic sense of humor.

A love for strong female characters.

Always be prepared for your favorite character to die.

These requirements can be daunting to some. Say the general public. BUT THEN for three glorious weeks. THREE WEEKS! The whole WORLD turned Whedonite.

Everyone was enjoying Tony Stark's impossible sarcasm and wit.

Everyone was appreciating the force of Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow and tough Cobie Smulders as agent Maria Hill.

And everyone was cursing Joss's name for killing off the precious Agent Coulson before his time!

Three weeks where the whole world felt what we long term Whedonites have felt for years. But like most fads of the world this one has faded a bit and now we all sit alone again crying AGAIN about how cruel it was to lose Fred so fast and unexpectedly to Illyria on Angel.

So rude Joss. She was my favorite.

I will never sing "You are my Sunshine" ever again.

I've also noticed Joss pops up in the other things that I love- stuff from my childhood.

Toy Story. Titan A.E. Atlantis: Lost Empire.

He's also one of the best songwriters EVER.

But only if you like songs that speak volumes about character and are funny yet evoke emotion. If you don't like those things you are probably a robot so you should check into that.

If you like those things then maybe you should watch "Once More with Feeling" again OR "Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog" or for bonus points listen to your "Commentary!" album.

We have a true visionary in this man. He is finally getting his big due but he has been loved violently for years by many. I can't wait to see "Much Ado About Nothing" and I will forever be re-watching Buffy, Angel and Firefly my whole life.

My kids are going to be raised by those shows! Thanks Joss for raising my future children for me- I really can't think of a better way to grow up.

I'd love to know which character death in the Whedonverse has affected you the most? How did you deal with such a loss?

Just a few thoughts on the Star Trek

A few years ago I went to the Star Trek exhibition in Pheonix. I went mostly because we were there visiting my uncles and I knew it was something my father and his brothers could do. They don't spend lot of time together and I actually think they have become more aquaintences than siblings over the years.

But Star Trek was something they grew up with. Something they shared a love for in their early years, something even my youngest uncle who is over ten years younger than my dad can share with his big brothers and bring them together.

I, of course, being the over observant daughter and niece I am found out about this exhibition and suggested that we all go. Some of my younger female cousins stuck their noses up at it, including my sister.

They went to see the Hannha Montanna movie so I got the better end of the deal. (Though I will admit I didn't HATE the Hannah Montana movie- I watched it with my roommate Bre on one of our particularly weirder nights)

It was at this exhibition when I realized how much knowledge I have gathered over the years about Star Trek. This is stuff that is like sensory triggered or something because I couldn't show you just how obscure my knowledge goes right now but if you put me in the costume hall again I could tell you who wore what in what episode and why that stitching pattern had significance to the character's growth at the time. (Okay over exaggerating a TINGE but you get the idea)

After that trip I decided I was officially a Trekkie. I accepted it with all the vigor and attention this self proclamation deserves. I had also willingly added myself to a group of people who are frequently mocked and looked down upon by other fandoms.

But I would totally rather go to Starfleet Academy then the Jedi Academy. So LIVE LONG AND PROSPER JERKS!

QUICK RUN DOWN OF MY TREKKIE STYLE:

Favorite Series: Voyager

Favorite Character: Tom Paris (The most glorious of douche bags)

Favorite Captain: James Tiberius Kirk

Favorite Villain: Q (Always hilarious)

Favorite Movie: Voyage Home (THE ONE WITH THE WHALES!!)

Favorite Couple: Riker and detaching the saucer from the rest of the ship. (HE LOVES IT SO MUCH!)

First things first: A Fathers Day post

Welcome to my blog! My name is Christina. My friends call me Stina. I am a graduate of film from The Academy of Art University in San Francisco where I spent four and half wonderful years grooming my creativity and learning SO MANY LIFE LESSONS!

One of those was realizing that I love science fiction more than any other genre. I love talking about it, I love reading it, watching it, crying about it, obsessing about it, losing sleep over it, and most of all writing about it.

Every person has a start. A beginning to their passion. Mine started with my old man- fitting isn't it? This will also be a father's day post... why not?

Every weekday when I was growing up the Simpsons came on at six. To get to the hilarious glory that was Bart and Homer I had to sit and watch Star Trek: Next Generation with my Dad at five.

I was never against watching Next Gen I just didn't really know WHAT I was watching, but that hour of  the crew of the Enterprise working out  whatever problem they came across was the most important hour of my young life.

It was the beginning. The beginning of my love for the science fiction genre. The beginning of my love for scripted television. The beginning of my love of character and story arcs. The beginning of shaping who I am today.

I am a proud inherited Trekkie. That might sound like I didn't have a choice in the matter but I did. My sister never took to the Enterprise crew as I did, oh sure she thinks Chris Pine and Zach Quinto are "hot" in the new movies but I love the Trek because I simply LOVE the Trek!

My father lives and breathes Original Series. I think the influence of Captain James T. Kirk on my young ginger father back in the day instilled a need to seek justice and like Kirk be the hero to implement it.

My father is a high ranking official in my home county's District Attorney's office- after 30 years of enacting Kirk like justice he has reached the mountain top in his career path. I truly believe Kirk was a huge factor in this though I doubt my dad made it to second base with any green alien ladies.

Dad also instilled my love of all things Disney. This I don't think I really had choice in.

Was I the one asking him to watch The Little Mermaid with me on Saturday afternoons? No.

Did I ever have to beg him to watch Winnie The Pooh when it was blistery Windsday? Nope.

All my love and devotion for Disney stems from his love for it and his even deeper devotion to me and making sure I had something to share with him as I grew older because he always knew someday I would be like Ariel and dream of more for my life- and he would have to let me go.

So thanks Pops for the brainwashing! You can't judge me for being a starving writer my whole life because it's your fault I'm the way I am.

I love you Daddy.

This blog will be about my wibbly wobbly timey wimey sciency- fictiony life- I'm a Sci-Fi Princess and welcome to my kingdom!
